We at The HD Group have an unending hunger for architecture and design. Unfortunately, we don’t always have the time or opportunity to pursue a course of formal education in this field.
SCI-Arc is an incredible Los Angeles institution focused specifically on architectural education. In fact, it is one of only a few independent architecture schools in the country. SCI-Arc is focused on teaching the architects of tomorrow with educational programs covering the past, present and future of design.
SCI-Arc offers short-term deep dives into various disciplines of architecture and design. These courses are open for anyone to join and explore these subjects. If you are thinking of a career in architecture, this is a perfect opportunity to take a test drive in this field of study without making a long-term commitment or major financial investment.
Each year, SCI-Arc offers landmark summer programs. This year, there are three courses available with registration now open to anyone.
Making+Meaning (M+M)
July 5 – July 28, 2023
This four-week program is open to creative individuals, college students, graduates and inspired professionals who wish to explore a career in architecture. It will introduce you to architectural concepts and experimental design techniques as you build your own design portfolio in an interactive studio setting. Making+Meaning will offer participants a wide range of architectural tools and techniques. Ultimately, the program culminates with a public exhibition where all students can show off their work and receive valuable feedback from influencers in the industry.
Design Immersion Days (DID)
June 20 – July 14, 2023
This is an immersive four-week SCI-Arc program designed for high school students interested in architecture and design. It will introduce participants to basic design concepts and inspire critical thinking skills related to a career in architecture. From traditional drawing to digital modeling and 3D printing, Design Immersion Days will provide a wide range of classic and modern architectural approaches. Scholarship support is available to select applicants.
Introduction to Digital Design (IDD)
August 22 – August 30, 2023
This is a shorter SCI-Arc summer program that takes place over a week-and-a-half in August. It is offered to incoming M.Arch 2 students and will provide thorough instruction for software that will be used during their graduate studies. Introduction to Digital Design covers numerous digital modeling and representation tools to prepare architecture students for the world of computer-rendered design.
