Most people know March is Women’s History Month, and we outlined a few great ways to celebrate that in our previous blog article (click here to read). Not everyone realizes this is also Irish-American Heritage Month, which has been recognized nationally since 1991. It makes sense that March is the month we commemorate Irish culture because of St. Patrick’s Day, but it goes beyond just drinking some green beer at your favorite local pub.
Naturally, there are a lot of fun bar crawls and pub specials throughout Los Angeles every year on St. Patty’s Day. Go out and celebrate safely with your friends. For some additional Irish-American cultural resources in LA, here are some resources you may want to check out:
The Celtic Arts Centre
An Claidheamh Soluis (aka The Celtic Arts Center) has been a local nonprofit cultural arts organization for more than 25 years. They seek to preserve and share visual arts, folklore, music and traditions from the original Celtic nations. They are always hosting special events, concerts and art exhibitions throughout Southern California. Learn more.
The Irish Fair Foundation
This foundation is based in North Hollywood and hosts a variety of Irish-American-themed events like the Big Irish Fair, the Irish Man and Woman of the Year awards ceremony, and the Southern California Rose of Tralee. The Irish Fair Foundation was founded in 1975 and their biggest annual event is The BIG Irish Fair and Music Festival. Learn more.
The Irish Outreach Center
Though based out of San Diego, the Irish Outreach Center serves Irish residents, Irish-American citizens and recent Irish immigrants throughout Southern California. They have consulates located in Los Angeles, as well as San Francisco. This community-based organization focuses on counselling, social integration, legal services and community connections vital to the Irish-American way of life. Learn more.
