February is Black History Month, and there are many special events going on throughout Los Angeles. From lectures and movie screenings to symposiums and festivals, there are many ways you can celebrate and learn more about African-American culture throughout the month. Music is one of our favorite forms of artistic expression. That is why we support many musical performance organizations throughout the area. February 2024 offers some very special performances inspired by Black History Month:

Choirs at Colburn Celebrate Black History Month
Colburn School • Los Angeles
Saturday, February 17

Adrian Dunn is Colburn’s Director of Choral Programs. He will be leading this joyous musical celebration of Black History Month in Zipper Hall. The performance will feature original compositions from his new Emancipation Deluxe album, along with classic acapella spirituals. Various genres will be explored and represented in this inspired choir performance. It is free to attend, but you must get a ticket in advance. Learn more.

LA Black History Month Festival
Pan Pacific Park • Los Angeles
Sunday, February 18

The 8th Annual LA Black History Month Festival will be held at Pan Pacific Park with this year’s headliner, RoJames, performing live. In addition to the concert and other live musical performances, the festival will feature the African Marketplace, vendors, food, art and discussion forums on topics relating to the African-American community. Sofar Sounds Black History Month Concerts

Sofar Sounds will be hosting a series of Black History Month Concerts throughout February. More shows and details will be announced soon. As of right now, West Adams is scheduled to perform on Saturday, February 10. Sofar doesn’t announce the venue for certain events until 36 hours before the concert. Their pop-up style creates a fun and intimate atmosphere. There is another show currently scheduled in Santa Monica on Friday, February 16. The California Baptist University Shelby and Feme Collinsworth School of Performing Arts will be hosting a special Black History Month Celebration Concert. It will feature live jazz performances from a variety of musicians, including the Seahawk Jazz Orchestra and special jazz bassist Dr. Marshall Hawkins. Learn more.
