Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22, 2023. It has been held on the same day every year since it was first officially recognized in 1970. Since then, millions of Americans have taken proactive steps to be more environmentally conscious. Though we commemorate Earth Day once a year, Mother Earth is something we should celebrate every single day. We believe in doing our part whenever possible. Hopefully, we can all take little steps to make our planet a better place for the next generations to live.

Of course, Earth Day is a good excuse to be a little more eco-friendly this week. Here are a few ways you can do your part:

Clean Up Days

Next time you are out on a walk or hike, pick up some litter and make our world just a tiny bit cleaner. Carry a trash bag with you and a stick or grabber if you don’t want to touch it with your hands. Consider attending a public cleanup event. The annual Earth Day Beach Cleanup & Party 2023 is taking place at Hermosa Beach Pier.

Other Earth Day Events

Many communities throughout the greater Los Angeles have their own Earth Day gatherings, hikes and forums to promote cleaning up the land. Check out some of these events:

Eco Education

Take this opportunity to learn more about important environmental issues such as recycling, sustainable construction, reduced plastic waste, composting, renewable energy and other topics that may interest you. There are both small and big steps you can take to change your daily habits and make a positive impact on the future of our planet. The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles in Whittier is hosting the Earth Day 2023 Community Festival this Saturday. It is a fun, yet educational event for all ages.

Consume a Little Less

Sometimes, doing nothing can make a difference. Take a break from take-out containers and unnecessary waste this weekend. Stay at home. Enjoy a nice home-cooked meal with your family and friends. Cut out single-use plastic bottles and other items for a few days. This is what Earth Day is all about!
